Inhalation devices, including metered-dose inhalers (MDIs), dry powder inhalers (DPIs), and nebulizers, are integral to the management of respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Proper usage of these devices is critical for effective medication delivery, yet a significant percentage of patients fail to use them correctly, which can diminish treatment efficacy and increase the risk of side effects. This article reviews the different types of inhalers, including their unique features and specific use cases, along with detailed step-by-step instructions for their proper operation. Additionally, the role of spacers in improving MDI technique is discussed. The importance of patient education and consistent provider oversight in ensuring correct usage is emphasized to optimize treatment outcomes.
