Autoimmune diseases arise when the immune system, designed to defend the body, mistakenly attacks its own tissues. Despite affecting over 80 million people worldwide, the causes of autoimmunity remain elusive, with genetic, environmental, and microbial factors all playing roles. This article explores the multifaceted origins of autoimmune diseases, examines cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic advances. Including immunomodulators, biologics, and gene therapy and emphasizes the future potential of precision medicine in restoring immune balance. Understanding the mechanisms behind immune dysregulation is vital to developing effective, personalized treatments for these chronic and often debilitating conditions.
