Perineal trauma is a frequent complication of vaginal delivery, often resulting in significant physical and psychological challenges such as pain, dyspareunia, urinary and fecal incontinence, and delayed mother-infant bonding. Perineal massage has been proposed as one potential intervention to enhance perineal safety during childbirth. This narrative review aims to assess the effect of perineal massage on improving perineal safety in vaginal deliveries.

The review suggest that perineal massage holds promise for promoting perineal safety. To ensure the consistent and effective application of perineal massage, comprehensive education, training, and the integration of standardized guidelines into maternity care protocols are essential.
