This article discusses the fat halo sign, a radiological feature seen on CT abdominal scans and MRI, which is useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of Crohn's disease. The fat halo sign represents infiltration of the submucosa with fat between the muscularis propria and the mucosa. The article describes a case in which the fat halo sign was identified in a patient with Crohn's disease. The differential diagnosis between the fat halo sign and the target sign is also discussed. The fat halo sign is shown to be helpful in monitoring disease progression and response to treatment in patients with Crohn's disease. While recent studies suggest that the fat halo sign may represent a normal finding related to obesity, it remains a valuable imaging tool for diagnosing Crohn's disease when used in conjunction with other clinical and radiological evidence.
